Praise God You Heavens of Heavens - Psalms 148:4

In Psalms one hundred and forty eight the Psalmist speaking of Jehovah God said, “Praise you him, all his angels: praise you him, all his hosts. Praise you him, sun and moon: praise him, all you stars of light”, and in Psalms one hundred and forty eight and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Praise him, you heavens of heavens” where we read,

Praise him, you heavens of heavens, and you waters that be above the heavens.

The verse begins, Praise him, you heavens of heavens, .... The Psalmist began with the words, “praise him” or “give thanksgiving, adoration and worship to him, Jehovah God”, “you heavens of heavens” which means “you visible skies, atmosphere and abode of the stars and dwelling place of God among the visible skies, atmosphere and abode of the stars and dwelling place of God”. The Psalmist called upon the visible sky, atmosphere, abode of the stars and spiritual dwelling place of God to give Him honor, glory and thanksgiving.

The verse goes on to say, “... and you waters that be above the heavens.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and you waters” or “and you watercourses or floods” “that be above the heavens” which means “that exist beyond the visible skies, atmosphere and abode of the stars and dwelling place of God”. The Psalmist called upon the watercourses and floods that are beyond the visible skies to give honor and “praise” to Jehovah God.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist exhorted more elements of God's creation to give Him honor and thanksgiving. The “heavens of heavens” and the “waters” beyond the “heavens” were to adore and give Him laud. God's creation responds to Him in “praise”, and God desires for people to do the same. He gave us the ability to choose to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to join His “heavens” and “waters above the heavens” in giving Him honor and “praise”.

Next time the Psalmist say, “let them praise the name of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
