Man is Like to Vanity - Psalms 144:4

In Psalms one hundred and forty four David said, “LORD, what is man, that you take knowledge of him! or the son of man, that you make account of him!”, and in chapter one hundred and forty four and verse four of Psalms David said, Man is like to vanitywhere we read,

Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passes away.

The verse begins, Man is like to vanity: David began with the words, “man is like” or “people both male and female exist in likeness and similar” “to vanity” which means “to vapor, breath or emptiness”. David said people are similar to emptiness and vapor.

The verse continues, “his days are as a shadow that passes away.” David added the words, “his days” or “he, the person whether male or female's, period of time or lifetime” “are as a shadow” which means “exists similar and in likeness to a shade whether literal or figurative” “that passes away” or “that traverses, becomes obsolete and alienated”. David said a person's lifetime is brief like a shade or “shadow” that quickly comes and goes.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how David recognized the brief time that people exist on the earth. Our time, regardless of how many years we live, is very short, and God designed us so that we shall live forever. (See James 4:14) He knew this, and when sin entered the world, so did death, and now God's mission is to offer salvation through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to number our days on earth and trust Him to give us eternal life with Him.

Next time David says, Bow your heavens, O LORD, and come down, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
