The LORD Preserves Strangers - Psalms 146:9

In Psalms one hundred and forty six the Psalmist said, “The LORD opens the eyes of the blind: the LORD raises them that are bowed down: the LORD loves the righteous”, and in chapter one hundred forty six and verse nine of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the LORD preserves the strangers” where we read,

The LORD preserves the strangers; he relieves the fatherless and widow:

but the way of the wicked he turns upside down.

The verse begins, The LORD preserves the strangers; he relieves the fatherless and widow:. The Psalmist began with the words, “the LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “preserves the strangers” which means “keeps, guards, observes and watches over people who are sojourners, foreigners and aliens”; “he relieves the fatherless” or “he, Jehovah God, restores, bears witness to, warns, exhorts and charges people who are bereaved of parents or orphans” “and widow” which means “and desolate for the loss of a husband”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God observes and watches people who are foreigners, and He restores people who have become orphans or have lost their spouses to death.

The verse goes on to say, “but the way of the wicked he turns upside down.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “but the way” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the journey, direction, habits, course of life and manner” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to criminals, those guilty of crimes, the ungodly, evil people and those who are hostile to God” “he turns upside down” or “he, Jehovah God, makes crooked, bends, falsifies and subverts”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God subverts the course of life of people who are evil and hostile to Him.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we discover how he knew Jehovah God guarded and watched over people who are foreigners, and He attended to the needs of people who are orphaned and who have lost their spouses. He also makes crooked the manner of living of people who are evil and hostile to Him. God's desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with every person through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. He was raised from the dead three days later, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and watch over us and restore us regardless of our positions and situations in this world.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD shall reign for ever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
