Sing Unto the LORD with Thanksgiving - Psalms 147:7

In Psalms one hundred and forty seven the Psalmist said, “The LORD lifts up the meek: he casts the wicked down to the ground”, and in chapter one hundred forty seven and verse seven of Psalms the Psalmist said, “sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving” where we read,

Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:

The verse begins, Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving;. The Psalmist began with the words, “sing unto the LORD” or “use voices to make melodies, odes and worship to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “with thanksgiving” which means “by the use of confession, praise and sacrifices of adoration”. The Psalmist exhorted his readers and listeners to use their voices to make musical worship of confession and adoration to Jehovah God.

The verse goes on to say, “sing praise upon the harp unto our God:” The Psalmist continued with the words, “sing praises” or “use voices to make melodies, odes and worship of adoration and thanksgiving” “upon the harp” which means “on the lyre or stringed instrument” “unto our God” or “toward our, the Psalmist and his people's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. The Psalmist encouraged his readers and listeners to use their voices to make music of worship with the lyre and stringed instrument to their Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist desired that his readers and listeners would use their musical voices to worship Jehovah God with praise and adoration. He wanted them to give Jehovah God honor by playing stringed instruments to honor Him. When we “praise” God, we align with His purpose for our lives. However, sin separated us from a relationship with God, and when Jesus died on the cross, He paid the penalty for sin which is death. Now when we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us all eternity to “praise, honor and adore” Him.

Next time the Psalmist shares about, “the heavens, clouds, rain and grass”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
