God Showing His Word to Jacob - Psalms 147:19

In Psalms one hundred and forty seven the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “gives snow like wool: he scatters the hoarfrost like ashes. He casts forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold? He sends out his word, and melts them: he causes his wind to blow, and the waters flow”, and in chapter one hundred forty seven and verse nineteen of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “shows his word unto Jacob” where we read,

He shows his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.

The verse begins, He shows his word unto Jacob, .... The Psalmist began with the words, “he shows his word” or “he, Jehovah God, tells, makes known, publishes, declares and proclaims his, Jehovah God's, speech, utterance, sayings, business, occupation, acts, matters and manners” “unto Jacob” which means “to Jacob whose name means heel holder or supplanter and was son of Isaac, grandson of Abraham, and father of the twelve patriarchs of the tribes of Israel”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God declares His utterances and speeches to the people of “Jacob” or “Israel”.

The verse continues, “his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.” The Psalmist added the words, “his statutes” or “his, Jehovah God's, limits, prescribed tasks, boundaries, decrees and ordinances” “and his judgments” which means “and his, Jehovah God's, justice, act of deciding a case, court, sentence, decision and execution” “unto Israel” or “to Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God declares His ordinances and acts of deciding a case to the people of “Israel”.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God not only governs over His creation, but He also provided His way of living to the people of “Jacob” or “Israel”. God chose the nation of “Israel” to be the nation through whom all the nations of the world could be saved. (See Genesis 18:18, 22:18; Galatians 3:8) He gave them His “law”, and told them how to live, and when they violated His law, He sent His Son Jesus through them to die on the cross to pay for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and govern over our lives in truth and justice according to His “statutes and judgments” for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says Jehovah God, “has not dealt so with any nation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
