Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem - Psalms 147:12

In Psalms one hundred and forty seven the Psalmist said “the LORD takes pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy”, and in chapter one hundred forty seven and verse twelve of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem” where we read,

Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion.

The verse begins, Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem;. The Psalmist began with the words, “Praise the LORD” or “give thanksgiving, adoration and worship to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “O Jerusalem” which means “O Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”. The Psalmist exhorted the people of “Jerusalem” to give thanksgiving and adoration to Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “praise your God, O Zion.” The Psalmist added the words, “praise your God” or “give thanksgiving, adoration and worship to your, the people of Jerusalem's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “O Zion” which means “O Zion whose name means parched place and is another name for Jerusalem especially in the prophetic books”. The Psalmist exhorted the people of “Zion” to give adoration and thanksgiving to their Divine judge and ruler.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist wanted the people of “Jerusalem or Zion” to give thanksgiving and adoration to Jehovah God who is their Divine judge and ruler. God rules and reigns over “Jerusalem”, and because He desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, He sent Him into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to join “Zion and Jerusalem” in giving honor, adoration and praise to God for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says of Jehovah God, “he has strengthened the bars of your gates”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
