The Heavens, Clouds, Rain and Grass - Psalms 147:8

In Psalms one hundred and forty seven the Psalmist said, “Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:”, and in chapter one hundred forty seven and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist shared about, “the heavens, clouds, rain and grass” where we read,

Who covers the heaven with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth,

who makes grass to grow upon the mountains.

The verse begins, Who covers the heaven with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, .... The Psalmist began with the words, “who covers the heaven” or “who, Jehovah God, hides, conceals, spreads over and overwhelms the visible sky and the atmosphere” “with clouds” which means “by the use of darkness, thicket and cloud mass”, “who prepares rain” or “who, Jehovah God, makes firm, stable, fixed and established the water from the clouds” “for the earth” which means “on behalf of the territory, country, land, ground, district and world”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God conceals the sky with “clouds” and makes the ground ready for watering.

The verse continues, “who makes grass to grow upon the mountains.” The Psalmist added the words, “who makes grass to grow” or “who, Jehovah God, causes, prepares, springs up and buds green leeks and herbage” “upon the mountains” which means “on the risings above the plains, mountainous ranges or hill country”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God is responsible for making green herbage to be established on the risings above the plains or mountainous ranges.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we discover how Jehovah God causes the “clouds” to overshadow the sky, and He makes the “rain” to fall upon the dry ground. He also establishes green herbage to spring up on mountainous ranges throughout the world, and all of creation is within His care. God created us as well, and He provides for us according to His perfect will and plan. He gave us His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make provision for us even as He does the earth and sky.

Next time the Psalmist shares about, “the beast and young ravens”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
