God's Pleasure in Them that Fear Him - Psalms 147:11

In Psalms one hundred and forty seven the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “delights not in the strength of the horse: he takes not pleasure in the legs of a man”, and in chapter one hundred forty seven and verse eleven of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the LORD takes pleasure in them that fear him” where we read,

The LORD takes pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

The verse begins, The LORD takes pleasure in them that fear him, .... The Psalmist began with the words, “the LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “takes pleasure” which means “is pleased with, favorable to and accepting” “in them that fear him” or “within the people whether male or female who are morally reverent and afraid of him, Jehovah God”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God is accepting and favorable to people who revere and are in awe of Him.

The verse goes on to say, “... in those that hope in his mercy.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “in those that hope” or “within the people whose tarrying, waiting and expectation exist” “in his mercy” which means “within his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness”. The Psalmist added people who are in expectation of Jehovah God's goodness and faithfulness to those in whom He “takes pleasure”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through the Psalmist how Jehovah God is accepting and favorable to people who revere Him and those who expect Him to be good and faithful. God wants to bless us, and He made provision for our blessing when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us be reverent to Him so that He is pleased with us in this life and in the eternal life to come.

Next time the Psalmist says, “Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
