The LORD Lifts Up the Meek - Psalms 147:6

In Psalms one hundred and forty seven the Psalmist said, “Great is the Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite”, and in chapter one hundred forty seven and verse six of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the LORD lifts up the meek” where we read,

The LORD lifts up the meek: he casts the wicked down to the ground.

The verse begins, The LORD lifts up the meek:. The Psalmist began with the words, “the LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “lifts up the meek” which means “ surrounds, restores, relieves, enjoins and gives warning to the poor, humble, lowly and needy”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God restores and relives people who are humble and poor.

The verse continues, “he casts the wicked down to the ground.” The Psalmist added the words, “he casts the wicked down” or “he, Jehovah God, abases, makes lower and humiliates people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil, bad, malignant and hostile to God” “to the ground” which means “toward the land, earth, region and territory”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God abases and humiliates people who are criminal and hostile to Him.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God raises up people who are humble before Him, and He puts down people who are malignant and evil. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. He will receive us when we humble ourselves and surrender to Him, but He will contend with those who refuse and reject Him. God will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and raise us up as we yield to Him, but woe be to those who deny the invitation of Jehovah God.

Next time the Psalmist says, “sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
