Singing Praises Unto God - Psalms 147:1

In Psalms one hundred and forty seven and verse one the Psalmist said, “it is good to sing praises unto our God” where we read,

Praise you the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God;

for it is pleasant, and praise is comely.

The verse begins, “Praise you the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God. The Psalmist began with the words, “Praise you” or “you, people who are reading and listening to the Psalmist's words, give thanksgiving, adoration and worship to” “the LORD” which means “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”: “for it is good to sing praises” or “because, since and on account that it exists as pleasant, agreeable, excellent, rich and valuable to make music of adoration, thanksgiving and worship with the voice” “unto our God” which means “toward our, the Psalmist and his people's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. The Psalmist exhorted his readers and listeners to give adoration and thanksgiving to Jehovah God because it is pleasant and agreeable to make music with their voices to offer worship to their Divine judge and ruler.

The verse goes on to say, “for it is pleasant, and praise is comely.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “for it is pleasant” or “because, since and on account it, singing adoration and worship to Jehovah God, exists as delightful, sweet, lovely and agreeable”, “and praise is comely” which means “and adoration, thanksgiving and worship exist as suitable and beautiful”. The Psalmist said offering worship in songs is delightful, sweet, lovely and beautiful.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist encouraged and exhorted his readers and listeners to offer adoration and worship to Jehovah God in songs with their voices. He declared this act as “good, pleasant and comely”, and those who are wise join in. God loves people, and when they worship Him with their musical voices, He inhabits their praise. (See Psalm 22:3) God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind so we may have a personal relationship with Him. When we believe and trust in Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and inspire us to give Him honor and “praise” with our songs of worship.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD does build up Jerusalem”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
