Strengthening the Bars of Gates - Psalms 147:13

In Psalms one hundred and forty seven the Psalmist said “Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion”, and in chapter one hundred forty seven and verse thirteen of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “has strengthened the bars of your gates” where we read,

For he has strengthened the bars of your gates; he has blessed your children within you.

The verse begins, For he has strengthened the bars of your gates;. The Psalmist began with the words, “for he has strengthened” or “because, since and on account that he, Jehovah God, has hardened, secured and made firm and rigid” “the bars of your gates” which means “the spear-shafts, bolts and fortress rods belonging to your, the people of Jerusalem's, openings, doors or ports to the city”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God made the fortress rods belonging to the entrance doors of Jerusalem to be strong, rigid and firm.

The verse goes on to say, “he has blessed your children within you.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “he has blessed your children” or “he, Jehovah God, has adored, saluted and abundantly congratulated your, the people of Jerusalem's, offspring and progeny” “within you” which means “in you, the city of Jerusalem”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God adored the offspring of the people in the city of Jerusalem.

When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God fortified the entry points to the city of Jerusalem. This caused the offspring of the people there to be abundantly kept safe and adored by Him, and God wants the same for us. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect and provide for us and our children both in this world and in Heaven to come.

Next time the Psalmist says Jehovah God, “makes peace in your borders”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
