In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Hear, you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding”, and in chapter four and verse two of Proverbs Solomon said, “I give you good doctrine” where we read,
For I give you good doctrine, forsake you not my law.
The verse begins, “For I give you good doctrine, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “for I give you” or “because, since and on account that I, Solomon, put, set, grant, provide, ascribe, consecrate and dedicate to you, children both male and female” “good doctrine” which means “pleasant, agreeable, excellent, rich, valuable and appropriate teaching, insight, instruction and persuasiveness”. Solomon shared how he provided rich and valuable teaching and insight to his offspring.
The verse continues, “... forsake you not my law.” Solomon added the words, “forsake you not” or “you, children both male and female, do not leave, depart from, neglect, apostatize or let go of” “my law” which means “my, Solomon's, direction, instruction, teaching, customs, manners or codes”. Solomon instructed his prodigy not to depart from his instruction and teaching.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon explained to his offspring that his teaching and instructions were pleasant and valuable, and his children were never to abandon his manner of living. God wants us to have a life that is in keeping with His perfect plan and purpose for us, and when we humble ourselves and yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide us with His rich and valuable teaching from which we should never depart or leave.
Next time Solomon says, “I was my father's son”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
