In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Hear, you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. For I give you good doctrine, forsake you not my law”, and in chapter four and verse three of Proverbs Solomon said, “I was my father's son” where we read,
For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
The verse begins, “For I was my father's son, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “for I” or “because, since and on account that I, Solomon” “was my father's son” which means “existed as my, Solomon's, immediate male progenitor or ancestor's male offspring”. Solomon recalled how he existed as his male progenitor's, King David's, male offspring.
The verse goes on to say, “... tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.” Solomon continued with the word, “tender” or “soft, delicate, timid and weak of heart” “and only beloved” which means “and uniquely, solitarily and solely loved with strong affection and passion” “in the sight” or “within the front, vision and presence” “of my mother” which means “belonging to my, Solomon's, immediate female progenitor and ancestor”. Solomon remembered how he was delicate and timid as well as uniquely loved with strong affection within the presence of his immediate female progenitor.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon began to refer to his heritage as a child of King David, his father, and Bathsheba, his mother. Solomon evidently was delicate and weak of heart within the presence of his mother which caused his need to receive wisdom and understanding from his father. God knows our true state as well, and we are all in need of Him to be our “Savior and Lord”, when we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide for our needs as His children according to His riches in glory. (See Philippians 4:19)
Next time Solomon says, “he taught me also … let your heart retain my words”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
