Rebuking the Waters - Psalms 104:7

In Psalms one hundred four the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever. You covered it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains”, and in chapter one hundred four and verse seven of Psalms the Psalmist said, “at your rebuke they fled” where we read,

At your rebuke they fled; at the voice of your thunder they hasted away.

The verse begins, At your rebuke they fled; The Psalmist began with the words, “at your rebuke” or “at your, Jehovah God's, chiding and reproof” “they fled” which means “the waters covering the mountains took flight, abated, departed and disappeared”. The Psalmist referred to the way the waters concealing the mountains took flight at the chiding and reproof of Jehovah God.

The verse goes on to say,at the voice of your thunder they hasted away. The Psalmist continued with the words, “at the voice” or “at the noise and sound” “of your thunder” which means “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, peal of thunder in the skies” “they hasted away” or “they, the waters concealing the mountains, hurried, fled and suddenly tremble and departed”. The Psalmist said the waters that covered the mountains hurriedly departed when Jehovah God's peal of thunder sounded in the skies.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the way the waters covering the mountain ranges moved quickly away at His reproof and thunderous “voice”. God is all-powerful, all-knowing and omnipresent, and He manages the world according to His purposes and will. He offers salvation to people all over the world through His Son Jesus who came to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and display His power, might and ability throughout our lives on earth and in Heaven to come.

Next time the Psalmist says of the deep waters, “they go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
