In Psalms one hundred four the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “Who covers yourself with light as with a garment: who stretches out the heavens like a curtain. Who lays the beams of his chambers in the waters: who makes the clouds his chariot: who walks upon the wings of the wind. Who makes his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire. Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever”, and in chapter one hundred four and verse six of Psalms the Psalmist said, “you covered it with the deep” where we read,
You covered it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
The verse begins, “You covered it with the deep as with a garment:” The Psalmist began with the words, “you covered it” or “you, Jehovah God, concealed, clothed and hid the foundations of the earth” “with the deep” which means “by the use of the depths of the sea, ocean or abyss” “as with a garment” or “similar and in likeness to clothing, apparel, vestment or raiment”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God concealed the foundations of the earth with the depth of waters similar to the way clothes cover the body.
The verse continues, “the waters stood above the mountains.” The Psalmist added the words, “the waters stood” or “the flood and water courses remained, endured and tarried” “above the mountains” which means “over the top of the risings above the plains or mountains below the ocean”. The Psalmist said the depths of waters tarried over the “mountains” in the oceans and seas.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God is responsible for concealing with water the underwater mountains of the ocean. Deep beneath the ocean waves, mountainous terrain dwells, and many of them are taller than the mountains above ground. (See Genesis 1:2-10; 7:19) God is a marvelous Creator, and He manages the waters, mountains and whole of the world with His power and might. This same Creator God desires to have an intimate relationship with every person through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we surrender to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to learn of His great powers and abilities that are greater than the waters that cover the mountains in the seas.
Next time the Psalmist says of Jehovah God, “at your rebuke they fled”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
