Up the Mountains and Down the Valleys - Psalms 104:8

In Psalms one hundred four the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever. You covered it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains. At your rebuke they fled; at the voice of your thunder they hasted away”, and in chapter one hundred four and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist said, “they go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys” where we read,

They go up by the mountains;

they go down by the valleys unto the place which you have founded for them.

The verse begins, They go up by the mountains; The Psalmist began with the words, “they go up” or “they, the waters that cover the mountains, ascend, climb and rise” “by the mountains” which means “through the hills, range of mountains and risings above the plains”. The Psalmist referred to the way the waters rose over the risings above the plain.

The verse continues,they go down by the valleys unto the place which you have founded for them. The Psalmist added the words, “they go down” or “they, the waters, descend, decline and sink down” “by the valleys” which means “through the means of the plains” “unto the place” or “toward the space or location” “which you have founded for them” which means “that you, Jehovah God, have fixed, established, appointed and ordained for the waters”. The Psalmist referred to the waters descending into the plains where God ordained that they should be.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist considered the way Jehovah God allowed the waters to flow over the mountains and down through the valleys. He appointed where they were to be, and in those place He established them. God oversees all the waters in the world even as Isaiah the prophet wrote about Him, “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand” (See Isaiah 40:12) This same God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to enjoy Him and His power for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says of Jehovah God concerning the deep waters, “you have set a bound that they may not pass over”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
