In Psalms one hundred and two the Psalmist said, “my days are like a shadow that declines; and I am withered like grass. But you, O LORD, shall endure for ever; and your remembrance unto all generations”, and in chapter one hundred two and verse thirteen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “you shall arise, and have mercy upon Zion” where we read,
You shall arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, is come.
The verse begins, “You shall arise, and have mercy upon Zion:” The Psalmist began with the words, “you shall arise” or “you, Jehovah God, will stand up, come on the scene and establish Himself”, “and have mercy” which means “and own and possess compassion, tender affection and love” “upon Zion” or “on Zion whose name means parched place and is another name for Jerusalem especially in the prophetic books”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God would stand up and establish Himself and extend love, compassion and tender affection toward “Zion” or “Jerusalem”.
The verse continues, “for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, is come.” The Psalmist added the words, “for the time to favor her” or “because, since and on account that occasion and season to extend to her, Zion or Jerusalem, grace, pity and kindness”, “yes, the set time” which means “even so and indeed, the appointed place, meeting and season”, “is come” or “has come to pass, been lighted upon, attained and enumerated”. The Psalmist said the appointed occasion to extend grace, pity and love to “Zion” arrived.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God would stand up and extend His compassion and pity upon “Zion”. The Psalmist knew this was the appointed season for Jehovah God to pour out His grace and kindness upon her. God loves “Zion” or “Jerusalem” even as He loves all people. He wants everyone to live with Him in Heaven forever, however, sins, errors, wrongs and mistakes keep us separated from God. This is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and share His love, compassion, pity and kindness upon us forever and ever.
Next time the Psalmist says of Jehovah God, “your servants take pleasure in her stones”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
