Your Servants Take Pleasure in Her Stones - Psalms 102:14

In Psalms one hundred and two the Psalmist said, “You shall arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, is come”, and in chapter one hundred two and verse fourteen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “your servants take pleasure in her stones” where we read,

For your servants take pleasure in her stones, and favor the dust thereof.

The verse begins, For your servants take pleasure in her stones, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “for your servants” or “because, since and on account that your, Jehovah God's, subjects, worshipers, and bondmen” “take pleasure” which means “are pleased, favorable, and satisfied with” “in her stones” or “her, Zion or Jerusalem's, marble hewn stones”. The Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God's bondmen and worshipers enjoy and are favorable to the “stones” within “Zion” or “Jerusalem”.

The verse goes on to say,... and favor the dust thereof. The Psalmist continued with the words, “and favor” or “and are gracious, kind and show pity to” “the dust thereof” which means “the dry earth, powder, ashes and debris within Zion or Jerusalem”. The Psalmist said the bondmen and worshipers of Jehovah God also are gracious and kind to the dry earth and debris within “Zion” or “Jerusalem”.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist referred to the love and compassion the worshipers of Jehovah God had toward the “stones” and “dust” of the city of “Zion” or “Jerusalem”. In other words, they were committed to Jehovah God's city. God loves the people of Israel, and “Jerusalem” is where He established them. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross just outside the city of Jerusalem for the sins of all mankind. God offers salvation from our sins when we yield ourselves to Jesus and make Him the “Savior and Lord” of our lives. Let us have “favor”, compassion, pity and kindness toward “Jerusalem” and the people within it while we understand God's loves extends from that city unto the world.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
