God Remembering His Covenant - Psalms 106:45

In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist speaking of the people of Israel said Jehovah God, “regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse forty-five of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “remembered for them his covenant” where we read,

And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.

The verse begins, And he remembered for them his covenant, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “and he remembered for them” or “and he, Jehovah God, called to mind, recalled and brought to memory on behalf of them, the people of Israel” “his covenant” which means “his, Jehovah God's, alliance, treaty, league, constitution, ordinance and agreement”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God called to mind His alliance and agreement with the people of Israel.

The verse goes on to say,... and repented according to the multitude of his mercies. The Psalmist continued with the words, “and repented” or “and was moved to pity and compassion” “according to the multitude” which means “in the abundance, great and numerous amounts” “of his mercies” or “pertaining to his, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God was moved to pity the people of Israel in the abundance of His goodness, kindness and faithfulness.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God compassionately called to mind His agreement with the people of Israel. God had pity and compassion on the people of Israel even though they forsook Him and followed other gods. God patiently waits for a person to suffer the consequences for rejecting Him, and when they are humbled enough to cry out to Him, He will look upon them with forgiveness and restoration. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and extend to us His goodness, kindness and faithfulness even though we do not deserve to receive it.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “made them also to be pitied”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
