Made to Be Pitied - Psalms 106:46

In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist speaking of the people of Israel said Jehovah God, “remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse forty-six of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “made them also to be pitied” where we read,

He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.

The verse begins, He made them also to be pitied ... The Psalmist began with the words, “He made them” or “ He, Jehovah God, gave, set, put and granted them, the people of Israel” “also to be pitied” which means “even so and indeed to exist as in need of mercy, compassion and tender love”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God caused the people of Israel to be in need of compassion and tender love by the following.

The verse continues,... of all those that carried them captives. The Psalmist added the words, “of all those” or “by each, every, the whole and everyone of the people” “that carried them” which means “who led and brought away them, the people of Israel, as” “captives” or “penned up, restricted and shackled ones”. The Psalmist said the people of Israel were in need of compassion by the people who led them away in shackled and restrictions.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist said Jehovah God caused the people of Israel to have compassion and tender love extended toward them by the ones who shackled and restricted them. This was a complete change of behavior by both the people of Israel and their captors. God's desire is to save every person for all eternity, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us in a position of being in need of compassion and tender love from Him in this life and the next.

Next time the Psalmist says, “Save us, O LORD our God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
