Jehovah Regarding Israel's Affliction - Psalms 106:44

In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist speaking of the people of Israel said, “their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand. Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse forty-four of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry” where we read,

Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:

The verse begins, Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “nevertheless he regarded” or “nonetheless, however and moreover he, Jehovah God, perceived, looked at, considered and observed” “their affliction” which means “their, the people of Israel's, straits, distress, oppression, sorrow and tribulation”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God paid attention to, considered and observed the distress and oppression of the people of Israel.

The verse continues,... when he heard their cry: The Psalmist added the words, “when he heard” or “at the time and moment he, Jehovah God, listened to, obeyed and understood” “their cry” which means “their, the people of Israel's, ringing cry, entreaty, supplication and proclamation”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God listened to and understood the supplication of the people of Israel.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist said Jehovah God paid attention to the distress and oppression of the people of Israel at the time they entreated and cried out to Him. Even though the people of Israel rejected Jehovah God, worshiped pagan gods, offered their children as a sacrifice to them and followed their own counsel rather than His, God paid attention to them when they called out to Him. God knows where each of us are in our relationship with Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender to Him, regardless of how far we are away from Him, He will hear us and be willing to save us from our oppression and tribulation.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “remembered for them his covenant”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
