Hearts Brought Down with Labor - Psalms 107:12

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist said, “Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men. For he satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness. Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron. Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse twelve of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, brought down their heart with labor where we read,

Therefore he brought down their heart with labor; they fell down, and there was none to help.

The verse begins, Therefore he brought down their heart with labor; The Psalmist began with the words, “therefore he brought down their heart” or “wherefore, then and on account of this, he, Jehovah God humbled, subdued and bent the knee of the people of Israel's soul, mind and will” “with labor” which means “by the use of toil, trouble, mischief and wearing effort”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God caused the soul, mind and will of the people of Israel to be bent down with toil and trouble because of their rebellion against His words.

The verse continues, they fell down, and there was none to help. The Psalmist added the words, “they fell down” or “they, the people of Israel, stumbled, staggered and tottered”, “and there was none to help” which means “and there existed not one person to succor, support, give them aid or assistance”. The Psalmist said the people of Israel stumbled and staggered and no one was around to give them assistance.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God caused the soul, mind and will of the people of Israel to be bent down with toil and trouble, and when they stumbled and staggered because of it, no one was there to give them aid. The people of Israel forsook God's words, and they suffered because of it. They decided they knew best for their lives, and when they began to experience troubles, toils and weariness, nobody helped them. God will allow people to refuse and reject His words, and He will permit them to turn away His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. Those who do will find themselves not only with great troubles in this life with no one to help, but will suffer eternally for their refusal to receive Him. When we receive Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us in our time of need according to His riches in glory. Let us always be mindful of the words of Jehovah God, and may we never experience the loneliness and depression that happens to those who turn away from His words.

Next time the Psalmist shares how the people, cried unto the LORD in their trouble, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
