Hungry and Thirsty - Psalms 107:5

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist speaking of Israel said Jehovah God, “gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse five of Psalms the Psalmist speaking of Israel said of the people of Israel, “hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them where we read,

Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.

The verse begins, Hungry and thirsty, ... The Psalmist began with the word, “hungry” or “failing in strength and desiring food” “and thirsty” which means “and desiring drink and refreshment”. The Psalmist referred to how the the people of Israel desired food and drink as they wandered in the wilderness.

The verse goes on to say,... their soul fainted in them. The Psalmist continues with the words, “their soul” or “their, the people of Israel's, minds, wills, desires, living being and seat of emotions and passions” “fainted in them” which means “enveloped, covered and showed feebleness within them, the people of Israel”. The Psalmist shared how the minds, wills and emotions of the people of Israel became enveloped with feebleness as they hungered and thirsted in the “wilderness”.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the physical condition, mind, will and emotions of the people of Israel as they made their way through the desert wilderness. They were “hungry, thirsty and feeble in their minds and heart”. God knew this, and He knows this about us as well. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and care for our physical and spiritual needs according to His riches in glory. (See Philippians 4:19)

Next time the Psalmist said of the people of Israel, they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
