Wandering in the Wilderness - Psalms 107:4

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist speaking of Israel said Jehovah God, “gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist said the people of Israel, wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way where we read,

They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.

The verse begins, They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; The Psalmist began with the words, “they wandered” or “they, the people of Israel went astray, staggered, erred and were mislead mentally and morally” “in the wilderness” which means “within the pasture, uninhabited land and desert place” “in a solitary way” or “in a wasteful, desolate and inconsolable manner”. The Psalmist said the people of Israel went astray and were mentally and morally mislead while they journeyed through the desert place or uninhabited land.

The verse continues, they found no city to dwell in. The Psalmist added the words, “they found no city” or “they, the people of Israel, discovered, attained and detected not one town, habitation or abode” “to dwell in” which means “to live, assemble or be seated within”. The Psalmist said the people of Israel did not discover any dwelling place to live in while they wandered in the wilderness.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist told of the “staggering and wandering” of the people of Israel as they traveled through the wasteful desert place. God watched over the people of Israel as they journey, but they found no place where they could make their abode. God wants us to know this world is temporary like the “wilderness”, and our ultimate home is to be with Him in Heaven forever. He gave us access to be with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to find our dwelling place with Him for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist said of the people of Israel, “hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
