Many Times Delivered - Psalms 106:43

In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist speaking of the people of Israel said, “their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse forty-three of Psalms the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “many times did he deliver them” where we read,

Many times did he deliver them;

but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.

The verse begins, Many times did he deliver them; The Psalmist began with the words, “many times” or “a great number, numerous and abundant amount of occasions” “did he deliver them” which means “did he, Jehovah God, rescue, save and liberate them, the people of Israel”. The Psalmist referred to how Jehovah God rescued and saved the people of Israel on an great number of occasions.

The verse goes on to say,but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity. The Psalmist continued with the words, “but they provoked him” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover they, the people of Israel were contentious with, rebellious against and disobedient to him, Jehovah God” “with their counsel” which means “by the use of their, the people of Israel's, purpose, advice and prudence”, “and were brought low” or “and became sunken down, humiliated and decaying” “for their iniquity” which means “because, since and on account of their, the people of Israel's, perversity, depravity, guilt and consequence of or punishment for evil and mischief”. The Psalmist said the people of Israel were contentious and rebellious with Jehovah God in their purposes and advice, and the consequences were humiliation, depravity and punishment for evil.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the numerous times when Jehovah God rescued the people of Israel. Their response to His deliverance was to rebel against Him with their advice, and they were humiliated because of their evil. God loved Israel, and He provided for them over and over again, but they rejected and refused Him. They decided they knew better than God, and they became humiliated by following their own ways. God loves us, and He proved His love by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and remind us by His Holy Spirit to continue with Him rather than suffering humiliation by refusing to align with Him.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
