Save Us, O LORD - Psalms 106:47

In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist speaking of the people of Israel said Jehovah God, “remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies. He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse forty-seven of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Save us, O LORD our God” where we read,

Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen,

to give thanks unto your holy name, and to triumph in your praise.

The verse begins, Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “Save us” or “rescue, deliver and liberate us, the Psalmist and the people of Israel”, “O LORD our God” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “and gather us” or “and collect, assemble and bring together the Psalmist and the people of Israel” “from among the heathen” which means “separate and apart from the pagan, Gentile and foreign nations and people groups”. The Psalmist called upon Jehovah God his Divine judge to rescue and deliver him and the people of Israel and to assemble them together to be separated from the pagan, foreign and non-Hebrew nations.

The verse goes on to say,... to give thanks unto your holy name, and to triumph in your praise. The Psalmist added the words, “to give thanks” or “to cast forth, provide and confess gratitude, laud and praise” “unto your holy name” which means “to your, Jehovah God's, sacred, separate and set apart fame, reputation and glory”, “and to triumph” or “and to commend, congratulate and boast” “in your praise” which means “within your, Jehovah God's, song or hymn of adoration, thanksgiving and laudation”. The Psalmist said he and the people of Israel would cast forth and confess gratitude to Jehovah God's sacred fame, reputation and glory and to celebrate Jehovah God with songs and hymns of adoration and thanksgiving.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to rescue him and the people of Israel, and God delighted in doing so. God loves the people of Israel, and when they are in need of rescue, even when their hating foes and adversaries oppose them, He will deliver and save them. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to give Him honor, praise and thanksgiving for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “Blessed be the LORD God of Israel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
