Oh that Men Would Praise the LORD - Psalms 107:8

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist said the people of Israel were, “Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist said, Oh that men would praise the LORD where we read,

Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness,

and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

The verse begins, Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “Oh that men” or “O that people both male and female” “would praise the LORD” which means “would laud, give thanks and confess honor to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “for his goodness” or “on behalf of his, Jehovah God's, kindness, faithfulness and favor”. The Psalmist called out for people to give honor and adoration to Jehovah God for his faithfulness, kindness and favor.

The verse continues,... and for his wonderful works to the children of men! The Psalmist added the words, “and for his wonderful works” or “and on behalf of his, Jehovah God's, marvelous, surpassing, extraordinary and distinguished labors, acts and deeds” “to the children” which means “toward the offspring and progeny” “of men”or “belonging to people both male and female”. The Psalmist included the surpassing and extraordinary acts and deeds of Jehovah God toward the offspring and progeny of people.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist exhorted people to give honor and adoration to Jehovah God for His extraordinary acts and deeds toward them and their “children”. This phrase is employed four times in this chapter of Psalms, (See also verses 15,21,31 also) and the repeated emphasis should cause us to pay attention to and obey his instruction. God loves us, provides for us, protects us and desires to save us from our sins so we can live forever with Him. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us an opportunity to honor and adore Him for His extraordinary acts for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, satisfies the longing soul, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
