People Who Sit in Darkness and in the Shadow of Death - Psalms 107:10

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist said, “Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men. For he satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse ten of Psalms the Psalmist shared about people who, sit in darkness and in the shadow of death where we read,

Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;

The verse begins, Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “such as sit in darkness” or “the people who dwell, remain and abide within obscurity, ignorance, destruction and misery” “and in the shadow of death” which means “and within the shade or covering pertaining to the grave, calamity, distress and extreme danger”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God would satisfy the souls of people who dwell and remain within the shade of extreme danger and distress.

The verse continues,... being bound in affliction and iron; The Psalmist added the words, “being bound in affliction” or “existing as prisoners and captives in poverty, misery and depression” “and iron” which means “and tools of harshness, strength and oppression”. The Psalmist referred to people who exist as captive prisoners of harshness and oppression.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the condition of the people who were “hungry within their souls”. They were dwelling in ignorance, destruction, misery and in places of harshness and depression. God sees the needs of every person, and the promise of the Psalmist is that Jehovah God stands ready to rescue everyone who calls out to Him. He does this through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we humble ourselves before Him, repent of our sins and call upon Him to save us, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and satisfy and fulfill our souls wherever we find ourselves in need.

Next time the Psalmist shares how the people were sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death, because they rebelled against the words of God, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
