The Watchmen Found Me - Song of Songs 3:3

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not. I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not”, and in chapter three and verse three of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, the watchmen that go about the city found me where we read,

The watchmen that go about the city found me:

to whom I said, Saw you him whom my soul loves?

The verse begins, The watchmen that go about the city found me: Solomon began with the words, “the watchmen” or “the observers, guards and ones who preserve” “that go about the city” which means “who encircle and surround the town, encampment and place of waking” “found me” or “attained, secured and detected me, the bride”. Solomon shared how the bride said the guards or overseers who surrounded the town detected her.

The verse goes on to say, to whom I said, Saw you him whom my soul loves? Solomon continued with the words, “to whom I said” or “to the watchmen I, the bride, uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked”, “saw you him” which means “did you, the watchmen, observe, notice, discern or detect him, the groom” “whom my soul loves” or “for which my, the bride's, heart, mind, will, desires, conscience and seat of emotions and passions has deep affection and appetite”? Solomon shared how the bride began to question the “watchmen” as to whether they had seen her well-loved groom.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon continued to share the bride's activity as she searched for her groom. She said the guards and overseers who encircled the town discovered her, and she asked them whether they had seen her beloved groom. “Watchmen, overseers, pastors and leaders” are able to help us in our journey before Jehovah God, and when we are unable to “find” Him, they may be able to lead us to Him. James the apostle wrote, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded” (See James 4:8), and when we “draw near” to God, He will meet us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins as we surrender to Him. God will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a passion and love that causes us to seek Him all our lives and to live with Him forever.

Next time the bride says, “I found him whom my soul loves so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
