In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the lover or groom said to the bride, “your cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, your neck with chains of gold”, and in chapter one and verse eleven of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the daughters of Jerusalem said, “we will make you borders of gold” where we read,
We will make you borders of gold with studs of silver.
The verse begins, “We will make you borders of gold ...” Solomon began with the words, “we will make you” or “we, the daughters of Jerusalem, shall fashion, accomplish and produce for you, the groom” “borders of gold” which means “circlets, plaits, earrings and strings of gold metal”. Solomon shared how the daughters of Jerusalem respond to the groom's words concerning the bride by telling him they will fashion and produce for him earrings, plaits and strings made with gold.
The verse goes on to say, “... with studs of silver.” Solomon continued with the words, “with studs” or “by the use of drops or points” “of silver” which means “made with silver metal”. Solomon said the daughters of Jerusalem also said they would make the “borders of gold” to have drops or points made with silver metal.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon brought in the daughters of Jerusalem into the story once again, and like a Greek choir that continues the narrative, they tell the groom they will fashion and produce jewelry for him. As the groom acknowledged his bride, so those with her acknowledge him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and work within our lives in such a manner that others are attracted to to Him and desire to bless Him as well.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride shares what will happen, “while the king sits at his table”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
