In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon”, and in chapter fourteen and verse six of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “his branches shall spread” where we read,
His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as Lebanon.
The verse begins, “His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, ...” Hosea began with the words, “His branches shall spread” or “his, Israel's, young plants, twigs and shoots will depart, proceed and be disbursed”, “and his beauty” which means “and his, Israel's, splendor, majesty, vigor and glory” “shall be as the olive tree” or “will exist similar and in likeness to the tree bearing olive berries”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God promised that “Israel” would proceed in disbursement, and their splendor and glory would exist like the trees that produce “olive” berries.
The verse goes on to say, “... and his smell as Lebanon.” Hosea continued with the words, “and his smell” or “and his, Israel's, fragrance, aroma, scent and odor” “as Lebanon” which means “similar and in likeness to Lebanon similar and in likeness to Lebanon whose name means whiteness and was a wooded mountain range on the northern border of Israel”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said the scent of “Israel” would exist similar and in likeness to the fragrance of “Lebanon”.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Hosea continued to share God's blessings for “Israel” when He restored them. They would be “spread” afar, and their majesty and glory would exist similar to the trees that produce “olives”. They would have an aroma that was similar to the cedar trees of “Lebanon” which not only were known to produced a good “smell” but also kept them protected from insects and snakes. God loves the people of Israel, and He loves us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to grow in splendor, coverage and aroma toward people we encounter.
Next time Hosea shares how Jehovah God says, “they that dwell under his shadow shall return”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
