Giving the Sea His Decree - Proverbs 8:29

In the book of Proverbs Solomon shared how Jehovah God employed His wisdom, “While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth. When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep”, and in chapter eight and verse twenty-nine of Proverbs Solomon said wisdom was there, “when he gave to the sea his decree” where we read,

When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment:

when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

The verse begins, “When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: Solomon began with the words, “when he gave to the sea” or “at the time and moment he, Jehovah God, set, appointed, established and ordained to the large body of water such as the Mediterranean, Dead and Red Sea” his decree which means “his, Jehovah God's, statute, ordinance and prescribed portion”, “that the waters” or “so the waters within the sea” “should not pass his commandment” which means “is unable to pass over, by, through or transgress his, Jehovah God's, edge, portion, appointment or extremity”. Solomon shared how “wisdom” was present at the time Jehovah God ordered the limits and boundaries of the “waters” within the “seas”.

The verse continues, “when he appointed the foundations of the earth:” Solomon added the words, “when he appointed” or “at the time and moment he, Jehovah God, cut out, inscribed, engraved and governed” “the foundations” which means “base” “of the earth” or “belonging to the country, territory, region, district and world”. Solomon said Jehovah God employed His “wisdom” at the time he engraved and cut out the base portion of the world.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how God created the borders of the waters of the “sea” by His “wisdom”, and He set the base of the world in place by “wisdom” as well. God is omniscient and omnipresent, and He possesses the “wisdom” to make and limit whatever He desires. He offers to us a personal relationship with Him when we surrender our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to have His “all-powerful” and “all-knowing” “wisdom” to make our way according to his limits and “foundation” in the world.

Next time Solomon says of wisdom, “then I was by him, as one brought up with him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
