Set Up From Everlasting - Proverbs 8:23

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said of wisdom, “the LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old”, and in chapter eight and verse twenty-three of Proverbs Solomon said, “I was set up from everlasting” where we read,

I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

The verse begins, “I was set up from everlasting, ...” Solomon began with the words, “I was set up” or “I, wisdom, existed as poured out, anointed, established and installed” “from everlasting” which means “from long duration, antiquity, perpetuity and ancient time”. Solomon shared how “wisdom” was established and anointed from antiquity and ancient time.

The verse continues, “... from the beginning, or ever the earth was.” Solomon added the words, “from the beginning” or “separate and apart from the summit, upper part, height, front, choice and best”, “or ever the earth was” which means “before and in front of the time the land, country, territory, district, region and world existed”. Solomon said “wisdom” existed from the choicest and best time and in advance of the world being made.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how “wisdom” was established from antiquity, the start of all things and in advance of the world being created. God employed His “wisdom” to make the world, and He desires to share His “wisdom” with us. He gave His Son Jesus to the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and extend to us His “wisdom” to manage our lives according to His plans and purposes for us in the world.
