In the book of Proverbs Solomon said of wisdom, “She is more precious than rubies: and all the things you can desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace”, and in chapter three and verse eighteen of Proverbs Solomon said wisdom, “ is a tree of life” where we read,
She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retains her.
The verse begins, “She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her:”. Solomon began with the words, “she is a tree of life” or “she, wisdom and understanding, exists as a timber, stock and plank pertaining to flowing, fresh and active living” “to them that lay hold upon her” which means “toward the people both male and female who become strong, prevailing, hardening and courageous toward her, wisdom and understanding”. Solomon shared how people who are strengthened by wisdom and understanding exist as a timber of active living.
The verse continues, “and happy is every one that retains her.” Solomon added the words, “and happy is every one” or “and blessed exists each, the whole, all and every person” “that retains her” which means “who takes hold of, supports, attains and grasps her, wisdom and understanding”. Solomon said people who take hold of and grasp wisdom and understanding exist as blessed.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how wisdom and understanding exists as a stable and reliable stock for people who become strong within them, and every person who attains them exists as blessed. God wants us to have the “tree of life” (wisdom and understanding) in our lives, and He wants us to be blessed. God gave us His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us fresh and flowing life and blessings of wisdom and understanding to live within His presence.
Next time Solomon says, “the LORD by wisdom has founded the earth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
