A Quiver Full of Children - Psalms 127:5

In Psalms one hundred twenty-seven the Psalmist said, “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth”, and in chapter one hundred twenty-seven and verse five of Psalms the Psalmist said “happy is the man that has his quiver full of them” where we read,

Happy is the man that has his quiver full of them:

they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

The verse begins, Happy is the man that has his quiver full of them: The Psalmist began with the words, “happy is the man” or “oh how blessed exists the male human being” “that has his quiver” which means “who has his, the male human being's, arrow case” “full of them” or “sated, satisfied, accomplished and complete with them, children”. The Psalmist said the male human being is exceedingly blessed who obtains an arrow case full and complete with children.

The verse goes on to say, “they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. The Psalmist continued with the words, “they shall not be ashamed” or “they, the man who has his quiver full of children, will in no way or manner exist as shamed, disconcerted and disappointed”, “but they shall speak” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover they, the man with the quiver full of children, will utter, proclaim and declare” “with the enemies” or “alongside the hating foes and adversaries” “in the gate” which means “within the portal, port or door”. The Psalmist said the man who's “quiver” is “full of children” would not be shamed or disconcerted but would make utterances, declarations and proclamations with hating foes and adversaries within the portal or door of business of the city.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn the benefit and blessing that is afforded to the people who have a “quiver” full of children. Not only would they be “happy and blessed”, but their children would be part of their defense against hating foes in the portals of the city which was where judgments and official decisions are made. God loves us, and He has a plan and purpose for our lives. When we realize Jesus Christ, God's Son, was sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, we are to yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”. Then He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be part of His family that becomes our defense against the “enemies” in the prominent places of our lives.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see the Psalmist say, “Blessed is every one that fears the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
