Turn Again Our Captivity - Psalms 126:4

In Psalms one hundred twenty-six the Psalmist said “The LORD has done great things for us; whereof we are glad”, and in chapter one hundred twenty-six and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist said, “turn again our captivity, O LORD” where we read,

Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south.

The verse begins, Turn again our captivity, O LORD, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “turn again” or “return, restore and refresh” “our captivity” which means “our, the Psalmist and his fellow country-men's, exiles, prisoners and former state of prosperity”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to return to him and his people's former state of prosperity.

The verse continues, “... as the streams in the south. The Psalmist added the words, “as the streams” or “similar and in likeness to the channels, brooks, ravines and rivers” “in the south” which means “within southern Judah, Nekeb or the south-country”. The Psalmist desires to have his and his fellow country-men's prosperity to be return to them in a flowing manner that is like the channels and rivers which flow in south part their country.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we learn how he beckoned Jehovah God to return prosperity to him and his people. This flow was to be like the running waters located in the southern part of the Psalmist's country, and we can imagine the impact such a flow would make to him and his countrymen. God loves to supply the needs of all people, (See Philippians 4:19) and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, He provided a basis by which He can forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide us with a “stream” of restoration that includes prosperity and fortunes according to Him perfect plan and will.

Next time the Psalmist says, “they that sow in tears shall reap in joy”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
