In Psalms one hundred twenty-five the Psalmist said, “As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever”, and in chapter one hundred twenty-five and verse three of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous” where we read,
For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous;
lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.
The verse begins, “For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous;” The Psalmist began with the words, “for the rod” or “because, since and on account that the scepter, club, staff or truncheon which are marks of authority” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and wrong” “shall not rest” or “will in no way or manner settle down and remain” “upon the lot” which means “on the portion or destiny” “of the righteous” or “pertaining to people who are lawful, right, just and correct”. The Psalmist said the scepter of people who are criminal and evil would not remain on those who are just and correct.
The verse continues, “lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.” The Psalmist added the words, “lest the righteous” or “to the end, intent, purpose and account that the lawful, just, right and correct” “put forth their hands” which means “extend, stretch out and direct their own physical hands” “unto iniquity” or “toward injustice, unrighteousness, deeds of violence and wrong”. The Psalmist said the scepter of evil people would not remain upon those who are correct and right or it would influence the just and correct people to do wrong.
When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we understand how Jehovah God would not allow the rule of the unrighteous over people who are righteous to remain or otherwise their rule would influence people who are doing right to do wrong themselves. God wants us to follow Him and His laws, and His desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us under His scepter regardless of who rules in the world.
Next time the Psalmist says, “Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
