Waters Overwhelmed Us - Psalms 124:4

In Psalms one hundred twenty-four David said, “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say, If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us. Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us”, and in chapter one hundred and twenty-four and verse four David said, “the waters had overwhelmed us” where we read,

Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:

The verse begins, “Then the waters had overwhelmed us, ... David began with the words, “then the waters” or “at the time that floods and springs” “had overwhelmed us” which means “engulfed, washed off and overflowed us, David and his fellow countrymen”. David referred to the flood waters that would have engulfed him and his fellow countrymen.

The verse goes on to say, “... the stream had gone over our soul: David continued with the words, “the stream” or “the torrents, valleys, wadis and brooks” “had gone over our soul” which means “had crossed, passed and marched over our, David and his fellow countrymen's, hearts, minds, wills, desires, consciences, living beings and seats of emotions and passions”. David referred to the torrents and wadis that would have engulfed his and his fellow countrymen's hearts, minds and wills.

When we meditate upon David's words in this verse, we discover how the natural water resources would have engulfed him and his fellow countrymen if Jehovah God was not with them. David knew the importance of God's presence in his life, and God desires to be with us in every situation and circumstance as well. He loves us, and He proved His love toward us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us even when the “waters and streams” of the world rise up to “overwhelm” us.

Next time David says, “then the proud waters had gone over our soul”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
