Psalms one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and sixty nine begins the last section of this chapter with the Hebrew letter “TAU” where the Psalmist said, “let my cry come near before you, O LORD” where we read,
Let my cry come near before you, O LORD: give me understanding according to your word.
The verse begins, “Let my cry come near before you, O LORD:” The Psalmist began with the words, “Let my cry” or “allow and permit my, the Psalmist's, entreaty, supplication, proclamation, joy, praise and shouting” “come near before you” which means “approach and appear in front and in the presence of you, Jehovah God”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to allow his shouting aloud to approach His presence.
The verse goes on to say, “give me understanding according to your word.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “give me understanding” or “grant, allot and bestow to me, the Psalmist, discernment, perception, consideration and insight” “according to your word” which means “in keeping with your, Jehovah God's, speech, utterance and commandment”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to grant him discernment and insight in keeping with His speech and commandment.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist desired to be heard by Jehovah God, and he wanted His discernment in keeping with His Divine commandment. God loved the Psalmist, and the Psalmist loved Him. God loves us, and He hears our “cry” when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and not only “hear” us when we call out to Him, but also grant to us discernment in keeping with His perfect plan and will.
Next time the Psalmist says to Jehovah God, “let my supplication come before you” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
