Do Good, O LORD - Psalms 125:4

In Psalms one hundred twenty-five the Psalmist said, “the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity”, and in chapter one hundred twenty-five and verse five of Psalms the Psalmist said, “do good, O LORD, unto those that be good” where we read,

Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.

The verse begins, Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “do good or “form, fashion and accomplish that which is pleasing, joyful, beneficial and delightful”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “unto those that be good” or “to the people who exist as pleasing, joyful, beneficial and delightful”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to reciprocate the “good” that is performed by people who exist as “good”.

The verse goes on to say, “... and to them that are upright in their hearts. The Psalmist continued with the words, “and to them” or “and toward the people whether male or female” “that are upright” which means “who exist as straight, correct, right, pleasing and righteous” “with their hearts” or “within their hearts, minds, wills, desires, consciences, living beings and seat of emotions and passions”. The Psalmist also wanted Jehovah God to “do good” to people who exist as straight, correct and right in their manner of living.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he appealed to Jehovah God to perform pleasant and joyful things to people who conduct themselves in a righteous and correct manner. He included people who are right and correct in their souls in his request, and he knew God was willing to bless people in this way. God loves people, and He wants them to do and be righteous. He gave His only begotten Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bless us with “good” as we “do good” and are “good” within our souls.

Next time the Psalmist shares about, “such as turn aside unto their crooked ways”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
