In Psalms one hundred twenty-two David said of Jerusalem, “Peace be within your walls, and prosperity within your palaces”, and in chapter one hundred and twenty two and verse eight of Psalms David said of Jerusalem, “for my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within you” where we read,
For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within you.
The verse begins, “For my brethren and companions' sakes, ...” David began with the words, “for my brethren” or “on behalf of my, David's, relatives, kinsmen and kindred” “and companions' sake” which means “and friends, fellows and intimate neighbors and citizens' cause”. David said he would say the following on behalf of his kinsmen and intimate neighbors.
The verse continues, “... I will now say, Peace be within you.” David added the words, “I will now say” or “I, David, shall at this time and moment utter, declare and proclaim”, “Peace be within you” which means “completeness, soundness, welfare, safety, health, prosperity, calm and tranquility exist inside of you, Jerusalem”. David determined to proclaim that calm and tranquility would exist inside of the city of “Jerusalem” on behalf of his kinsmen and friends.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David cared for his kinsmen and neighbors who resided in Jerusalem, and he wanted “calm and tranquility” to be within the city. God was the source of “peace”, and when the people of Israel aligned with Him, they would experience His care and protection over them. God wants to give protection and provision to everyone, and He does this through a personal relationship with His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His “peace” regardless of where we reside.
Next time David says, “because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek your good”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
