I Rejoice at God's Word - Psalms 119:162

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “Princes have persecuted me without a cause: but my heart stands in awe of your word”, and in chapter one hundred and nineteen and verse one hundred and sixty two of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “I rejoice at your word” where we read,

I rejoice at your word, as one that finds great spoil.

The verse begins, I rejoice at your word, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “I rejoice” or “I, the Psalmist, exult, display joy and am bright and cheerful” “at your word” which means “toward your, Jehovah God's, speech, utterance and commandment”. The Psalmist shared how He was cheerful and joyful toward the speech and commandment of Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “... as one that finds great spoil. The Psalmist added the words, “as one that finds” or “and similar and in likeness to a person who finds, attains, secures and acquires” “great spoil” which means “much, abounding and numerous amounts of prey, spoil, plunder and booty”. The Psalmist said he was similar to a person who discovered a massive treasure because he was joyful over the “word” of God.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist was joyful over the “word” of Jehovah God, and he considered what God had to say to be like finding a abundant treasure. God's “word” is valuable, and He demonstrated that value when gave His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of every person. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us the value of what He says and the abundant treasure and joy that may be obtained for having it in our lives.

Next time the Psalmist says, “I hate and abhor lying” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
