I Love God's Precepts - Psalms 119:159

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they kept not your word”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and fifty-nine of Psalms the Psalmist said, “consider how I love your precepts” where we read,

Consider how I love your precepts: quicken me, O LORD, according to your lovingkindness.

The verse begins, Consider how I love your precepts: The Psalmist began with the word, “consider” or “look at, see, inspect, perceive and conceive” “how I love” which means “the way in which I, the Psalmist, have great affection and fondness for” “your precepts” or “your, Jehovah God's, statutes, mandates and commandments”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to perceive how affectionate he was toward His mandates and commandments.

The verse goes on to say, “quicken me, O LORD, according to your lovingkindness. The Psalmist continued with the words, “quicken me” or “sustain, make alive and revive me, the Psalmist”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “according to your lovingkindness” or “in keeping with your, Jehovah God's, compassion, pity, goodness, kindness and faithfulness”. The Psalmist called upon Jehovah God to sustain his life in keeping with His compassion, goodness and faithfulness.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to acknowledge his affection for the statutes and mandates of God. He desired to have God sustain His life in keeping with His compassion and pity. God loves to bless people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and sustain our lives through His commandments with His love, goodness and faithfulness.

Next time the Psalmist says, “your word is true from the beginning”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
