Great are God's Tender Mercies - Psalms 119:156

In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “Salvation is far from the wicked: for they seek not your statutes”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and fifty-six of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “great are your tender mercies, O LORD” where we read,

Great are your tender mercies, O LORD: quicken me according to your judgments.

The verse begins, Great are your tender mercies, O LORD: The Psalmist began with the words, “great are your tender mercies” or “many, abounding and numerous exist your, Jehovah God's, pity, compassion and caring love”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist referred to the abundant and numerous compassion of Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “quicken me according to your judgments. The Psalmist added the words, “quicken me” or “sustain, restore to life and keep me, the Psalmist, alive” “according to your judgments” which means “in keeping with your, Jehovah God's, ordinances, justice, process, procedure and act of deciding a case”. The Psalmist wanted Jehovah God to sustain his life in keeping with His ordinances and procedures.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist shared about the abundant and numerous compassion of Jehovah God. He knew God had the power and means to sustain his life, so the Psalmist deferred the sustenance of His life to Him. God loves us, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and sustain our lives in keeping with His Divine purpose and plan.

Next time the Psalmist says, “many are my persecutors and my enemies”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
