The LORD Shall Preserve You - Psalms 121:7

In Psalms one hundred twenty-one the Psalmist said, “The LORD is your keeper: the LORD is your shade upon your right hand. The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night”, and in chapter one hundred twenty-one and verse seven the Psalmist said, “the LORD shall preserve you from all evil” where we read,

The LORD shall preserve you from all evil: he shall preserve your soul.

The verse begins, The LORD shall preserve you from all evil: The Psalmist began with the words, “the LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “shall preserve you” which means “will keep, guard, observe, give heed to, watch over and protect you, the readers and listeners of the Psalmist's words” “from all evil” or “separate and apart from each, every, the whole and everything that is bad, disagreeable, malignant, displeasing, unhappy and miserable”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God would keep, watch over and protect the people who read and listen to his words.

The verse continues, “he shall preserve your soul. The Psalmist added the words, “he shall preserve” or “he, Jehovah God, will keep, guard, observe, give heed to, watch over and protect ” “your soul” which means “your, the readers and listeners of the Psalmist's words', heart, mind, will, desires, conscience, living being and seat of emotions and passions”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God would watch over and protect the hearts, minds and wills of the people who read and listen to his words.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist wanted his readers and listeners to know that Jehovah God would protect them from disagreeable and miserable things. He would also watch over and guard their hearts, minds and wills. God loves people, and He proved His love toward us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and “preserve” us in this life and in the life to come.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
