In Psalms one hundred twenty-nine the Psalmist said, “Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say, Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me”, and in chapter one hundred and twenty-nine and verse three of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the plowers plowed upon my back” where we read,
The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.
The verse begins, “The plowers plowed upon my back:” The Psalmist began with the words, “the plowers” or “the scratchers, cutters and ones who engrave” “plowed upon my back” which means “scratched, cut and engraved on my, the Psalmist's, physical back”. The Psalmist referred to the cuts caused by those who were against him that covered his physical back.
The verse continues, “they made long their furrows.” The Psalmist added the words, “they made long” or “they, the opposition of the Psalmist, drew out, fashioned and produced lengthy” “their furrows” which means “their ploughing ground and tilling rows”. The Psalmist referred to the elongated rows of cuts that put upon him by his foes.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist spoke specifically about the affliction he suffered from his foes. Even like the Psalmist Jesus bore the stripes put upon him (See Isaiah 53:5 and John 19:1-25), and He endured this so we could have a personal relationship with Jehovah God. Jesus suffered and died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and accompany us even when our adversaries “plow deep furrows” upon our “backs”.
Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD is righteous”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
