The Blessed Man Who Fears the LORD - Psalms 128:4

In Psalms one hundred twenty-eight the Psalmist said about the man who fears the LORD and obeys Him, “Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of your house: your children like olive plants round about your table” and in chapter one hundred twenty-eight and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist said, “thus shall the man be blessed that fears the LORD” where we read,

Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that fears the LORD.

The verse begins, Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed ... The Psalmist began with the words, “behold, that thus shall the man” or “lo, look and consider, because, certainly, surely and indeed will the person whether male or female” “be blessed” which means “exist as O how happy”. The Psalmist called upon his readers and listeners to observe that the blessed person who has performed the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... that fears the LORD. The Psalmist continued with the words, “that fears” or “who reverences, is afraid of, in awe and reverent to” “the LORD” which means “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God”. The Psalmist repeated the idea that the person who reveres and obeys Jehovah God will be made “O how happy”.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist assured the people reading and listening to his words that God would indeed “bless” everyone who obeys Him and keeps Him in awe. God loves people, and He wants them to revere and obey Him to their own benefit. He gave His Son Jesus to the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us how to be “O how happy” when we reverence Him and follow His ways.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD shall bless you out of Zion”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
