In Psalms one hundred twenty-four David said, “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say”, and in chapter one hundred and twenty-four and verse two David said, “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up” where we read,
If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:
The verse begins, “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, ...” David began with the words, “if it had not been the LORD” or “unless, in case and except that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One true God” “who was on our side” which means “who, Jehovah God, existed, become, came to pass, happened and fallen toward the Psalmist and his fellow countrymen”. David repeated the idea of what it would be like if Jehovah God was not alongside him and his fellow countrymen.
The verse goes on to say, “... when men rose up against us:” David continued with the words, “when men rose up” or “at the time and moment men, which refers to male and female human beings, arose, came on the scene, stood and were powerful” “against us” which means “in opposition to us, David and his fellow countrymen”. David considered what the result would be if Jehovah God was not alongside him and his fellow countrymen at the time and moment opposition arose.
When we think through David's words in this verse, we discover how he considered what it would be like in case Jehovah God was not alongside him and his people at the time and moment opposition arose. In other words, what would it be like to face people who wanted to do him and his people harm if God was not with them. God knows we will encounter many troubles, trials and tribulations in our lives, and He desires to have a personal relationship with us that allows us to know His presence is with us no matter what we encounter. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to encounter the greatest foe of all, death, to die on the cross for our sins. When we submit to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be with us regardless of whatever tribulations and troubles arise.
Next time David says, “Then they had swallowed us up quick”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
