In Psalms one hundred twenty-two David said, “Our feet shall stand within your gates, O Jerusalem”, and in chapter one hundred and twenty two and verse three of Psalms David said, “Jerusalem is builded as a city” where we read,
Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:
The verse begins, “Jerusalem is builded as a city ...” David began with the word, “Jerusalem” whose name means “teaching of peace” and was “the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split” “is builded” which means “is established, caused to continue and made permanent” “as a city” or “similar and in likeness to a guarded town of waking”. David said “Jerusalem” is established as a town that is awake and guarded.
The verse goes on to say, “... that is compact together:” David continued with the words, “that is compact” or “and exists as united, joined, in league and allied” “together” which means “all as one and as a unit”. David said the city of “Jerusalem” was united “city” that existed as one.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David referred to the watched over city of “Jerusalem”, and the people within it were living united. This poem, or song of decrees, was sung as the people of Israel ascended to the city of “Jerusalem”, and we can imagine this was David's inspiration for writing it. God loves the city of “Jerusalem”, and He watches over and cares for the people within it. He loves every person, and He gave His Son Jesus to die on a cross just outside of “Jerusalem” for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and unite us under His almighty hand and watchful eye.
Next time David says Jerusalem is, “where the tribes go, the tribes of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
