In Psalms one hundred nineteen the Psalmist said, “Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet your commandments are my delights”, and in chapter one hundred nineteen and verse one hundred and forty-four of Psalms the Psalmist said to Jehovah God, “the righteousness of your testimonies is everlasting” where we read,
The righteousness of your testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live.
The verse begins, “The righteousness of your testimonies is everlasting:” The Psalmist began with the words, “the righteousness” or “the justice, rightness, deliverance, victory and prosperity” “of your testimonies” which means “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, Divine witnesses” “is everlasting” or “exists for long duration, to futurity, forever, everlasting, perpetually and unto perpetuity”. The Psalmist said the justice and rightness of Jehovah God's witnesses last forever and unto perpetuity.
The verse continues, “give me understanding, and I shall live.” The Psalmist added the words, “give me understanding” or “grant, bestow and provide me, the Psalmist, with consideration, discernment, instruction, regard and perception”, “and I shall live” which means “and I, the Psalmist, will remain alive, sustain life, be quickened and live prosperously”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to provide him with instruction and discernment, and they would cause him to remain alive and live prosperously.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist acknowledged the perpetuity of Jehovah God's Divine witnesses, and when he received discernment and instruction from God, he would not only remain alive, but also live in a prosperous manner. God desires to give all people his protection and provision, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and not only acknowledge the rightness of His witness, but also be provided with His discernment and instruction for living in the world.
Next time we begin the next section of chapter one hundred nineteen that begins with the Hebrew letter “KOPH” where the Psalmist says, “I cried with my whole heart”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
